The HMUA received approval from the NJ Clean Energy Program to conduct an Energy Audit.  The Audit is being performed in conjunction with the NJ Local Government Energy Audit Program.  The Program provides for reimbursement of 75 percent of the cost of the Energy Audit.  The remaining 25 percent will also be reimbursed if the applicant implements recommended energy audit upgrades with a net investment cost that meets or exceeds the remaining 25 percent portion of the Audit cost.  The Total Cost of HMUA's Energy Audit will be $85,195.  The HMUA is the first public entity in NJ to receive Approval.

The HMUA Board directed staff to submit an application to the program and develop Request for Proposals (RFP).  HMUA received proposals from the five firms that were pre-authorized through the NJ State Cooperative Purchasing Program.  Subsequent to review of the proposals, the HMUA Board, at a Special meeting held December 1st, selected Camp Dresser & McKee to conduct the audit.  The Board's selection was forwarded to the Clean Energy Program for review and approval.  Approval was granted on December 10th.

The HMUA Board is very excited about participating in the Program.  The Audit will include evaluations of several renewable energy projects including Solar Power, Hydroelectric Power and the utilization of Digester Gas to generate electricity.  Upon receipt of the completed Audit, the HMUA Board will consider implementation of energy savings measures and renewable energy projects.  Water and Sewer utilities are typically the largest public users of power in a community.
